Rose Lavelle, USWNT Midfielder of the Match

Lavelle is a Cincinnati-born defender

Rose Lavelle, a Cincinnati-based soccer player. Rose Lavelle began playing soccer when she was five years old in coed youth leagues at the YMCA. She didn't smile, celebrate or even celebrate when she scored her very first goal. Instead she just continued to play the game. She later went on to play for several local soccer clubs, including Cincinnati United Premier Soccer Club. She also played college soccer at the University of Wisconsin.

Lavelle grew-up in Cincinnati, and attended Mount Notre Dame High School. Later she received a scholarship at the University of Wisconsin. Today, she plays in the NWSL with the Washington Spirit. Neil Bradford, the Cincinnati Soccer trainer, was instrumental in Lavelle's discovery of her love for soccer.

Lavelle was a member of the United States' women's national soccer team at the youth and senior level. In November 2015, she was named the top midfielder in the Big Ten. Later, she was awarded the NSCAA's first-team honor all-American. Lavelle also represented the Dayton Dutch Lions of the USL W-League (2014 and 2015) as well the Seattle Sounders Women’s W-League (2015 and 2015). Lavelle joined Washington Spirit after graduating college. She returned to Dayton after graduation for the 2016 Women's Premier Soccer League.


She played for Wisconsin

In December of 2015, Rose Lavelle won the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year award. She was also selected to the U.S. Women's National Team, but didn't make the game-day roster. Her frustration grew from that point. She felt that she wasn’t making progress and wasn’t prepared for the rigors associated with playing for the National Team. However, she was able break through after a meeting with Coach Wilkins.

Rose Lavelle plays for the Badgers and is an active participant in university's community programs. She is a key participant in Wish Upon a Badger Experience. She has been a brand ambassador for FLIGHT by Yuengling, a premium light beer.

She has been a key member of the U.S. Women's National Team

Rose Lavelle is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. At 15 years of age, she was a key player in the U.S. Women's National Team. She recently played in the Czech Republic at the SheBelieves Cup. Although the USWNT won the game 0-0 they outshot their opponents by 18-6. Rose Lavelle was named Budweiser Woman Champion of the Match.

Lavelle was injures in a friendly game against Australia in June 2017. However, she was able to return to the USWNT in time for the final match. She displayed a lot creativity throughout the tournament. Her coaches and teammates hailed her as a breakout star.

Lavelle is a former player at the World Cup of the United States. She made her World Cup debut in Thailand, but she was not able to make it against Chile. Later, she returned against Sweden to help the United States push its attacks.
